Ancient techniques, passed down from generation to generation until today.
Techniques
We believe that artisan craft is a natural way to help improve economic stability within the most vulnerable Andean communities. We work on preserving ancient techniques and methods that have been passed through generations to correctly handle the materials, with the objective to offer a true Andean essence.
Yarn Preparation:
The process begins in our workshops where the yarns are sorted, separating each cone (1 kg) into smaller cones for the warping process.
Warping:
The size of the warp depends on the number of blankets to be woven. We create warps for a maximum of 50 blankets at the time.
Loom Setup:
The warp is placed on the loom, and each thread is passed through the loom's "combs" to initiate the weaving process.
Weaving:
The threads are separated into small sections during the beaming process and placed on "bobbins," which are then loaded onto the "shuttles." These shuttles are inserted into the loom to weave the weft.
Washing and drying
After weaving, the fabrics undergo washing in our workshops. We use warm water, heated by solar heaters. The fabrics are then spun to remove excess water.
Next is the drying and finishing process. Fringes are added if applicable, or the blanket is sent to the warehoue for sewing, along with the cushions.
Finishing Touches:
Ironing is done using "calenders." Previously, industrial steamers were used, which are more powerful than domestic irons. The final step involves rigorous quality control. Once approved, the products are packed and shipped to the warehouse. In the warehouse, we handle the assembly of cushions and blankets. Products are labeled and undergo a final quality check before being packaged and transported.
